Microbiota and the Lung
This special collection will pull together an array of research exploring the importance of the microbiota in a variety of lung diseases, helping inform future diagnostics and treatment.
The lung microbiota presents a challenging environment for research. As a typically low biomass environment, research is complicated by sampling methodologies and the potential risk of contamination. Nevertheless, there are substantial benefits to better understanding host-microbiota within the lung environment to both health and disease. Although it has received less attention from the community when compared to other organ sites, findings in the last decade have indicated the important of the microbiota in a variety of lung diseases, offering potential for disease diagnostics and therapeutic interventions.
This important special collection will cover topics including:
- sampling from the lung
- host-microbiota interactions in the lung
- lung microbiota in health and disease
- new methodologies for understanding the lung microbiota.
This special collection is led by Microbiota and Host Associate Editor, Dr Simon JS Cameron.
